Unknown gunmen killed an Ethiopian peacekeeper in West Darfur the hybrid UN/African Union peacekeeping operation (UNAMID) said Saturday.

The Ethiopian soldier "was shot and later died of his injuries on 30 June in El-Geneina, West Darfur while traveling in a UN minivan. A second peacekeeper sustained an injury to one arm and is in stable condition," UNAMID said today.

“Our army is very well experienced in various peacekeeping missions across Africa and is trusted by the Sudanese parties,” Samora told the state ETv.
The deployment is part of the agreement signed between Khartoum and Juba last Monday.
According to the agreement, the armies of both sides would withdraw from the disputed region ahead of the arrival of Ethiopia’s troops.

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18 – Army personnel have been dispatched to the Kenya-Ethiopia border following recent raids by Merille tribesmen who killed more than 40 people.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga told Parliament on Wednesday afternoon that the army is under firm instructions to relocate more than 900 Merille tribesmen who have settled on the Kenyan territory.

Addis Ababa, May 10 (IANS) A two-day India-Africa seminar kicks off here Wednesday ahead of the second India Africa Forum Summit to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Ethiopian capital later this month to step up ties between the two regions that account for 40 percent of humanity. Egypt's ambassador to Ethiopia said Thursday that his government is willing to negotiate disputed Nile River issues with Ethiopia, including a colonial-era treaty that gives Egypt a majority stake in the river. Ambassador Tarik Ghoneim said Egypt's new government wants to start discussions with all nine Nile countries about using waters in the best interest of all.

ADDIS ABABA, April 18 (Reuters) - Ethiopia did not inform Egypt it planned to build a huge dam on the Nile and the two countries have not discussed the issue despite fears a dispute over the river could spark war, Ethiopia's water minister said. Work on the 5,250 megawatt (MW) Renaissance Dam - which will be one of the world's ten biggest -- began this month with Italy's Salini Costruttori overseeing a project with a $4.78 billion cost Ethiopia plans to fund itself.
