Ethiopians celebrated Obama's election as United States citizens because it has real meaning to their life. It was a hope of all Ethiopians that the new Obama Administration will stop financing the the Ethiopian government, that is accused by credible international human rights organizations and international communities.

According to Prof. Mesfin Woldemariam’s interview with one of American based Ethiopian radio station, “what prolonged our detention time was EPRDF confrontation with the international communities” . Mr Zenawi used to warn them, Declaring that it is a question of soviernity. Professor mesfin added his fear “Let not make additional burden to Birtukan, by trying to involve international communities to the matter. If so, the ruling party abruptly could make things worst, as we have seen it in our detention”

Foreign criticism of the Mr. Zenawi authoritarianism has been muted, notably because Meles -- whose country borders Eritrea and Somalia -- remains a key US and Western ally in the fight against Islamic extremism.

"It's great thing if there are several opposition parties, but when it comes to the long-term stability of the country and the region, Meles is still Ethiopian best bet," one Addis-based diplomat said to Reuters.

Meles told tens of thousands of cheering supporters that foreign forces could not overturn the outcome of the poll in this
Horn of Africa nation with key Washington ally; and warned others for any post-election bloodshed.

It was a clear memo for the international community to “respect his voice”. Though, many have not noticed the rally pictures, slogans were hold upside down, since most of the supporters don’t read English and/or may be grasped mistakenly.
