A Square to be named after the legendary singer, Tilahun Gessese By Tibebeselassie Tigabu ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia- the renowned singer in the coming April 23-25 through various events including a major event of dedication of a new square at Debre zeit road at place customarily know as Meshualekia to his name. The Ethiopian legendary singer, Tilahun Gessese, was a man who spent more than three decades in the career of music and did everlasting works over the ages living his mark in people heart even after he passed away. At the time of his death last year April 20, many people were shocked, and mourned for many days not believing that he died as some considered him immortal. He was given a national funeral ceremony. For the first day of the anniversary ceremony, April 23 a concert will be held in stadium. Thought the organizers preferred to withhold the identity of the musicians participating, they have affirmed that many artists will be present at the concert. In this free concert the artists will perform the songs of the late Tilahun Gessese to commemorate his works; poetry is also part of this concert. The concert, which starts at 4 pm and lasts up to 9 pm is expected to be attended by more than 40,000 people for free entrance. Organized by the Tilahun commemoration committee in collaboration with Arinchata and Mekdela promotion, on the second day, April 24, his statue on his grave yard at the holy trinity church will be unveiled. On the same day his biography which contains his achievements and tribulations, written by Ethiopian writers association will be launched at Addis Ababa University. ![]() Exhibition that shows his journey is also part of the commemoration and will be exhibited at the Institute of Ethiopian studies (IES), the exhibition will be open for the public for one month. On the last day, which is Sunday April 25 on the former Meshaualekia road, a square will be named after the legendary singer.
