Ministry secures USD 98m to ensure quality education

Education for All Fast Track Initiative (EFA FTI), a global partnership working on quality education for low-income countries, announced a grant of USD 98 million to improve the quality of education in the primary and secondary schools in Ethiopia.

The grant is intended to support curriculum reform program, teachers training program, revision of the learning assessment processes, school improvement program and other targets in the education sector. Demeke Mekonen, minister of the Education of Ethiopia, said that having achieved encouraging results in school enrollment rates, it was time to turn to the quality of education given to the students. “The grant will support the government’s strategy in delivering quality education,” he said.

The presentation of Ethiopia’s team, during the EFA FTI’s high-level meeting held in Addis Ababa that focused on the need to ensure quality education was a key factor in securing the sum, it was learnt.

EFA FTI includes 19 donor agencies, multilateral organizations and representatives from civic society organization. Currently, it supports 41 low-income countries.
