Ethiopia Undertaking Activities To Implement Green Development Strategy
   
 
 
   
 
ADDIS ABABA, Jan 9 (BERNAMA-NNN-ENA) -- Ethiopia is undertaking various activities to complement the execution of the country's Green Development Strategy which is aimed at building a carbon-free economy over the coming 15 years, says Minister Water and Mines Alemayehu Tegenu.

He told the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) here Sunday that Ethiopia was aggressively engaged in the development of its renewable energy resources and related activities and to this end was currently undertaking the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam as well as the Gilgel Ghibe III, Genale Dawa, Chamo Gyada hydro-electric power projects and a number of windmill projects.

He said the development of the jatropha plant was also underway to produce bio-fuel and encouraging results had been registered so far in this regard.

The nation was transplanting trees by the billions in various parts of Ethiopia, many of which consist of arid and semi-arid land (ASAL) as part of its Green Development Strategy.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) Chief Executive Officer Miheret Debebe said the government attached due attention for the effective execution of its green development strategy.

Aggressive engagement in hydro-power development would help Ethiopia to further enhance its relations with neighbouring countries, he said.

The country's 2025 Energy Development Master Plan was based on renewable energy resources aimed at enabling the nation to build a carbon-neutral economy, he said.
