Federal Police say they have sufficient evidence that shows the terror suspects they put under custody recently were involved in terrorist acts.

The Federal Police and the Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO) gave a joint press conference on Friday regarding the terror suspects that were arrested recently.

Being a member of a political party does not exempt one from being accountable for one’s criminal acts, the Federal Police and GCAO stressed.

Ethiopia: Federal Police say have ample evidence on terror suspectsTerrorist attacks that could have caused severe damage were averted as a result of measures taken to halt such attacks with the help of the anti-terrorism law, they recalled.

Police have ample evidence that the suspects have close relations with Ginbot 7 which is declared a terrorist group by law and were involved in treason and undercover work against national interest, they said.

Central Information and Criminal Intelligence Directorate Director with the Federal Police, Assistant Commander Demsash Gebremichael says the suspects were particularly plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in the new Ethiopian Year.

GCAO state Minister, Shimelis Kemal for his part said the fact that the nation pursues multi-party democracy does not mean that one is entitled to committing illegal act under the disguise of membership to a legal political party.

He urged political parties to purge themselves of terrorism and pursue the path of peace only. Effective counterterrorism activities have been carried out since the introduction of the anti-terrorism law, he said.
