Japan on Wednesday has donated 15,000 Metric Tons fertilizer worth about 115 million Birr to Ethiopia. The donation was made based on the Grant Aid Agreement signed between the Ethiopian and Japanese governments in March last year.

Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Hiroyuki Kishino handed over the donation to state minister of Agriculture, Wondyirad Mandefro. Speaking on the occasion, Wondyirad said Japan has been supporting Ethiopia's efforts to increase agricultural productivity.

He lauded Japan’s substantial support to Ethiopia’s ongoing endeavors to eliminate poverty. The fertilizer will be distributed among small-scale farmers, Wondyirad said.

Ambassador Kishino for his part expressed Japan's commitment to agricultural development in Ethiopia. He said the current donation would have its own contribution to the realization of the National Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).
