Ethiopia has been doing its level best towards the peaceful resolution of the current situation in Sudan, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Ministry on Wednesday held consultations with the Foreign, Defense and Security Affairs Standing Committee with the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on the current situation in Sudan.

Ethiopia working for peace in SudanThe consultations were focused on Sudan’s up coming referendum and the prospects of Ethio-Sudanese relations.

It was indicated on the occasion that Ethiopia and Sudan have longstanding social, politico economic and cultural ties.

Ethiopia is in favor a strong and unified Sudan, it was noted.

Nevertheless, considering the regional implications of Sudanese the referendum, Ethiopia has been collaborating with pertinent bodies towards the success of the referendum and the respect of the decision of the Sudanese people.

It is the firm conviction of Ethiopia that the African Union and IGAD should take the leading role in the ongoing continental efforts towards the peaceful resolution of the Sudanese situation.
