The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation announced on Thursday that it had made re-adjustments to its GPRS mobile internet price rates.
According to the new adjusted rates, ETC will now charge 1 cent per 100 kilobytes of data downloaded.
Previously, ETC charged 1 cent per 1 kilobyte of data. In a statement sent to The Reporter, it said that further re-adjustments were also likely to be made.
“Currently the service is being provided to post-paid subscribers. However, the corporation is also finalizing preparations to include pre-paid subscribers in the very near future,” Corporate Communications Department head Berhanu Leggesse said.
ETC’s GPRS service currently has a capability to transfer data up to 21.4 kilobytes per second.
While post paid users will have the service without any subscription fees, pre-paid clients are expected to pay a 45.00 birr charge to subscribe to the GPRS service, ETC said.
