The governments of Ethiopia and Japan on Tuesday signed a grant agreement amounting to 6.6 million USD, which would be used for the implementation of the Food Aid Project. State Minister of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED), Ahmed Shide and Japanese Ambassador to Ethiopia, Hiroyuki Kishino signed the agreement.

As per the agreement, the grant will be used for the procurement of equipment and services for the implementation of the Food Aid Project including for fees required in the implementation process.

Ahmed on the occasion said the Japanese government is providing assistance in various sectors and Ethiopia is benefiting from Japanese food aid programs since 1983. He expressed his hope that Ambassador Kishino will further enhance the ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Kishino for his part noted that the Japanese government recently granted 850 million Yen to Ethiopia. He said Japan would continue supporting actors in Ethiopia’s agriculture sector. It would also support the realization of the nation's five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), he added.
