Addis Ababa, August 6, 2010 (Addis Ababa) - The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED) said the five year national growth and transformation plan would enable the nation to double the agricultural produces and the general economic growth by registering 14.9 percent growth on average.
In a press conference he gave here on Thursday the MoFED minister Sufian Ahmed said the five year plan would sustain the double digit growth of nation registered over the past five years on average.

He said the plan would facilitate for the industry sector to take the lead in the over all development activities in the country.

Sufian said the plan aims at expanding and ensuring quality health and education services towards meeting MDGs targets in the sectors.

The minister said the plan has also targeted to register fast and sustainable economic growth in which the industry sector would play significant role.

He said ensuring the benefits of youth and women have also been the targets by enhancing capacity building and good governance issues.

The minister said the plan would help ensure food security at household and national level.

The plan will give sepcial attention for the industry sector which is believed to be the base for the national development in generating foreign currency and creating job opportunities.

Sufian said government will intensify efforts to address hurdles of investment flow by expanding infrastructure facilities.

The minister said government has attached due attention for the development of train, road telecommunication and irrigation potable water and sanitation sectors.

He said more than 2000 km of railway networks would be constructed in different parts of the country.

The minister said nation would generate 8,000 to 10,000 MW from water and wind resources during the next five years.

He said capacity building programs would be executed to boost the capacity of the civil service sector to improve execution capacity and good governance.

Sufian said the five years national growth and transformation plan would be tabled for discussion with various segments of the society at federal and regional levels as of July 9, 2010.
