You've probably never seen a Lada before but the Russian cars are ubiquitous in Ethiopia. The boxy Cold War-era vehicles are commonly painted blue and white and used as taxicabs in Addis Ababa.
The Lada 1200 was manufactured by AvtoVAZ and based on the classic Fiat 124. The cars are so common here that the words "taxi" and "Lada" are interchangeable.
Vintage Datsuns, Fiats and Toyotas are also often seen the street. Despite the age of the vehicles, the parts are reportedly relatively inexpensive.
