Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) to declare a record 4.2 bln birr profitThe Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) will in the coming weeks announce a record 4.2 billion birr profit for the just-ended Ethiopian fiscal year. The bank has bagged 4.2 billion birr in gross profit, the amount surpassing that of the previous year by a staggering 50 percent, according to a higher official of the bank who opted to remain anonymous because the bank’s performance statement is yet unofficial. The bank had grossed 2.8 billion birr during the previous Ethiopian fiscal year while it had made 43.5 billion the year before.

Ethiopian Economy May Expand 7.5% This Fiscal Year; Slow in 2012, IMF Says Ethiopia’s economic expansion may slow next fiscal year amid rising inflation, restrictions on private-bank lending and a “difficult” business environment, the International Monetary Fund said.

The growth rate may slow to 6 percent in the fiscal year to July 7, 2012, from 7.5 percent this year, the Washington-based lender said in an e-mailed statement today. The IMF’s estimate for 2010-11 growth is below the government’s projection of 11.4 percent for the period.
