Ethiopia secures $446m from export of oilseeds, pulses

Ethiopia secures $446m from export of oilseeds, pulsesEthiopia has secured 446 million US dollars from the export of oil seeds and pulses during the past Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 6, according to the trade industry on Monday.

The export revenue obtained during the period was an "all-time high," said Muse Yakon, president of the Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseeds and Spices Exporters' Association.

The amount of the annual export revenue the country gets from oilseeds and pulses, which was 40 million dollars on average in the last eight years, has increased to 446 million dollars in the past Ethiopian fiscal year, he said.

This shows a 20 percent growth compared to that of last fiscal year, said Muse, while awarding prizes to exporters with outstanding contributions.

Ethiopian officials say the contributions of oilseeds and pulses were not significant previously, adding that now they become one of the top important export products.
