International Calling to Ethiopia Gets Cheaper and Easier

It was not so long ago that anyone who used international calling to contact a friend or loved one in Ethiopia would have found the cost quite considerable. To compound the matter, the quality of phone calls to the country was often poor due to the poor quality of the domestic phone network.

International Calling to Ethiopia Gets Cheaper and EasierThis led to a sketchy, poor quality and often-frustrating service that was ill served to the needs of the many Ethiopians around the world who have a genuine requirement to call Ethiopia on a regular basis.

The development of cellular technology has revolutionised communication within the African nation, as it has many nations across the world and now Ethiopians can take advantage of the fact that, as of 2008, there were 3.168 million mobile phones in the country.

However, to call the country remained expensive and fraught with problems, which is where Rebtel come into the equation.

The Swedish based international call company operate a simple to use service. Wherever in the world their users are calling from, Rebtel’s service connects them to a loved one in Ethiopia via a good quality, local connection. This increases the quality of the phone line and reduces the chance of a drop-out or failed connection, allowing their customers to talk clearly to their friends and family.

Rebtel announced that the Ethiopian market, from its predominantly US based customer group, is one of the companies ten most important gateways at present. As such, Rebtel have made renewed commitments to its customers by reducing the call costs to Ethiopia not once, but twice over the past twelve months.

In December 2009, Rebtel slashed its rates at the time by a staggering 20 per cent. However, just two months later in the February of 2010, Rebtel once again reduced rates by a further 6% and the rates now stand at just USD 0.205 per minute if you call using a landline or USA 0.225 per minute if you call from a mobile phone.

Rebtel’s commitment to providing a reliable service to Ethiopia has not passed unnoticed by their customers. Operational controller for the company, Mikael Rosengren revealed that Rebtel’s quality of service and cheaper costs had seen traffic to the country increase by 100% in the twlve months since October 2009.

In addition to those impressive figures, further good news for the company came in the form of research conducted into calling habits and opinions of their Ethiopia calling customers in 2010. 95% of customers said they would recommend the company to friends and relatives, while over 70% felt that Rebtel was easier to use, cheaper and offered a far better all round service than their competitors.

Rebtel’s service has also received a boost due to the perception many users have about international calling cards. Another Rebtel study revealed that many calling card users felt they had been cheated out of call minutes by unreliable and untrustworthy calling cards, some customers claiming that they had been cheated upwards of $2000.

With the company looking to expand its customer call base to Ethiopia into Europe and beyond, it looks like being another exciting twelve months for Rebtel and all its Ethiopian customers.

I understand the urge to introduce this service to your readers. Unless Rebtel has arrangement with ETC, the service can easily be blocked by ETC as it clearly eats in to its profit.
