Ethiopia petroleum import to rise by 13 % in coming years

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Ethiopia’s petroleum import will rise by around 13 per cent in the coming years, forcing the country to spend annually around US$ 1.8 billion, the Ethiopian Petroleum Enterprise (EPE) said here on Friday.

The Ethiopian Petroleum Enterprise said that the country imported around 2.8 billion litres (2.5 millions tons) of petroleum in the past 10 months, worth around US$ 1.4 billion.

Petroleum consumption is on the rise since the past three and four years due to the country’s economic activity, which has been growing by around 10 % in the past five consecutive years, EPE added.

Ethiopia is expected to fully import its petroleum demand from neighbouring Sudan as of September.
