A helping hand: Palo Alto woman receives new set of prosthetics Amber Stime needed more than a hand. She needed two.
After nearly a decade of use, the prosthetics worn by the Palo Alto resident were falling apart despite a patchwork of repairs.
"They don't fit right," said Stime, 50, who lost her hands when she picked up a landmine in her native Ethiopia as a toddler. "I'm tired by the end of the day because I have to compensate for them."

But the founder and director of African Cradle Inc., a Mountain View-based nonprofit organization that caters to the needs of adopted children of African descent and their families, was in a bind. She gave up her health insurance years ago to stay afloat financially and couldn't afford replacements.

ARBAMINCH, ETHIOPIA, Jan 10 (BERNAMA-NNN-ENA) -- The Ethiopian Horticultural Agency says it has begun exporting organic bananas produced in Arbaminch and its environs in South Ethiopia Peoples' State for the first time.

The organic banana project co-ordinator with the agency, Geremew Kenna, told ENA here over the weekend that 200 tonnes of the organic bananas were supplied every week under an agreement reached with a Saudi Arabian company.

Diageo closes Meto Abo purchaseDiageo has acquired Ethiopia's last state-owned brewer, Meta Abo, in a move that will see the Guinness brewer lock horns with Heineken and Castel in Ethiopia's beer market.

Diageo won a bidding round for Meta Abo and has now completed the acquisition of the brewer for US$225m, it said today (10 January). Meta Abo is Ethiopia's second largest brewer, with a volume share of around 15%, behind Castel's beer division, Brasseries & Glacieres Internationales (BGI).
The deal means that competition in Ethiopia's beer market is set to intensify. Last year, Heineken entered the country by winning auctions to acquire state-owned Bedele and Harar breweries for US$85m and $78m respectively.
