After 15 years of exploration and spending 79 million Br, senior managers at National Mining Corporation (NMiC) announced, last week, the discovery of the largest gold reserves ever discovered, in Oromia and Tigray regional states.The two regions are where the nation’s largest gold reserves were long-believed to be located, according to geological data from the Ministry of Mines (MoM). NMiC is one among several mining companies that the Ministry has granted concession rights to, such as Nyota Minerals (Ethiopia) Ltd and Sheba Exploration Ltd.

Double Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba returned to racing after a long lay-off with a victory over the weekend.

The Ethiopian star won the 47th San Silvestre Vallecana road race in a close finish over the 10-kilometre road race in 31 minutes and 30 seconds over another top Ethiopian runner, Gelete Burka (31:30).

It was Dibaba’s first competitive race since August, 2010, and the start of her build-up to the London Olympics where she is expected to challenge the Vivian Cheruiyot-led Kenyan galaxy.

New Delhi, Jan 2 : The flavour of Africa lives in its colourful arts, crafts, people and exotic landscape. Eighteen African craftspeople from five countries -- Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Uganda and Rwanda - are in the capital with a showcase of their
handicrafts Dec 1-15 at the 25th annual Dastkari Haat Crafts Bazar.

The spread of the African crafts at the fair, which was inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit Monday, includes bead work, leather craft, embroidery, woven ware, jewelry and metal ware in a riot of colours and traditional designs.
