Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) Intercepted for Third TimeAmsterdam-based Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) has published the following press release on its website, dated 26 July:

“For the past 24 hours, Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) broadcasts and transmissions in Ethiopia, the Middle East and Europe have been disrupted for the third time since it began service in May 2010. Along with ESAT, the satellite service of state-controlled Ethiopian Television was also knocked of the air.

“Our evidence on the source of the illegal signal interference points exclusively in the direction of the Ethiopian Government. Beginning on July 20, the satellite system carrying ESAT signals was bombarded by intense and sustained radio frequency interference disrupting a whole set of services provided by various public and private entities. The evidence gathered by ESAT shows that the Ethiopian Government in illegal collaboration with certain parties in the satellite business attempted to isolate and disrupt ESAT signals. Appartently, that effort backfired and knocked off the broadcast signals of the Ethiopian Government.

Latest News : Ethiopia – an endless well of heartbreaking stories

A child in Addis Ababa suffers from a heart defect. With surgery, it could be corrected. Brian deGuzman, a cardiac surgeon at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center in Phoenix, examined the boy during our recent visit. He was frustrated to learn that the child has been lingering on a waiting list for surgery at the heart hospital in Addis — despite the fact that there was no one on staff who had ever performed this specific surgery. He pledged to look into the possibility of a medical evacuation to the U.S. It would require a lot of financial support and it would have to happen quickly, or the child would die.

Another child at the Addis Ababa foster home we visited suffers from a seizure disorder. He is sweet, affectionate — a beautiful child of about 7. He is very attached to his Ethiopian caregivers. But his brain, his ability to learn and his social skills have been affected by his disease. He had an adoptive family, before the seizures started. Now he is in limbo. The deGuzmans have been following his case through emails and phone calls with the staff of Christian World Adoption. When they traveled to Addis to pick up their own two babies, they brought refills for a very expensive prescription that has helped somewhat in curbing this child’s seizures. They spent more than half an hour with the nurse at the foster home, discussing his symptoms and progress.

Politics : Ethiopia: All ”narrow-minded “oppositions’ leaders should be condemned

Ethiopia: All ”narrow-minded “oppositions’ leaders should be condemnedLeaders of opposition parties ,who mastered them selves of “ narrow and old fashion mentality” , slashed by Mr Obang Metho , who didn’t receive a single respond from any of those opposition parties for his recent open invitation . supposedly to be focused to discuss about solidarity among Ethiopians .It is said Obang is forced to cancel his invitation.

In his open letter for all Ethiopians, Obang , Executive Director of the Solidarity Movement for New Ethiopia(SMNE) and a well respected Human Right activist appreciated several civic organizations and individuals for their commitments to support his initiatives . However, he strongly criticized leaders of the opposition parties , for their lack of positive vision about unite and their failure to respond for his call at lest by saying “yes” or “no” . At last,, he urges members of the public and members of the opposition parties to be vigilant about the behaviors of those “ self -centered “ and “power -hungered “ leaders . He also requested the public condemn their leaders’ acts in public. It is said such lack of cohesion among opposition parties would give green light for the ruling TPLF’s led government that has ruled the country for two decades under one party leadership and its near-total control of local and districts administrations to undermine oppnets' livelihoods.

A British woman swamp herself in the most remote communities on earth (Hamar), Ethiopia'Life isn't about having more': How spending a month with a tribe in Ethiopia gave a life coach a reality check
At 52, life coach Anna de Vere wanted to discover whether she was truly happy, so for a month she traded the trappings of her affluent London existence for the elemental basics of tribal living in Ethiopia

‘I teach personal development – and this was going to be the ultimate personal development. I found that for the Hamars, life is all about daily survival, where they walk for two hours to get water. We live in a consumerist society, but all they want – and this is the bit that breaks your heart – is rain, because they haven’t had any for almost two years.’
